In video surveillance operations, so as to achieve the highest quality audio a separate audio channel featuring a compressed audio module is essential
With compressed audio low audio levels boosted, the loud audio is processed to eliminate distortion
This is particularly relevant in larger monitoring sites- in larger rooms if there is no audio compression system then whispers are inaudible and ‘louder’ sounds, closer to the microphone, drown out all other sounds in the vicinity
From the compressed audio/pre-amplifier unit the signal can be taken directly to a VCR up to 1 mile away
Cable can be dedicated using coaxial cable or using a twisted pair format, existing cabling in the building can be used (for example, redundant telephone or alarm cabling)
